In order to disentangle the global network of (im)material structures united in an object, I deconstructed the material‘s supply chains of water, glycerin and gelatin—the ingredients of a bioplastic. To do this, I mapped the actors involved in Obsidian, a note-taking program that allows me to establish connections between notes/actors.

In parallel, I collected water and stones from the rivers around me, situating myself in these resource flows. Based on these waters I made bioplastic sheets and constructed a tool to vacuum form them. As I focused on the manufacturing method, not the production of a specific object, I vacuum-formed stones from the local rivers. This centralises the focus on the technique and the possibilities it created. The resulting shapes capture the traces of a now immaterial object. I played with the immaterialities of the material, both literally and metaphorically.

This work explored the interconnectedness of human action with non-human, living and non-living actors.
